Today's computers are "a memory". When there is no RAM, Windows begins to consume virtual memory on your hard disk, and saves the data in the "swapfile". But this process is several thousand times slower than reading and writing data from RAM. It can very negatively affect the performance of a PC. Some two or three years ago, 256 MB or 512 MB of RAM was enough for the average configuration of PCs and work on Windows XP. Today, however, only 2048 MB (2 GB) or even 4096 MB (4GB) can achieve balanced working of Windows Vista and its successor Windows 7's and their applications. A large amount of available memory is even more important if you use Windows Vista or Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional. Those who process images, edit videos or do graphically advanced work on their computers, may need up to 16 GB of RAM.

It should be remembered that the 32-bit systems will not need more RAM than 4 GB. Just increasing the system by 32-bit does not double the requirement. For 64 bit systems,  the upper limit of the ram for Vista is 128 GB of RAM.

Compared to other investments in equipment, installation of additional RAM is not expensive. In recent years, RAM prices have fallen considerably. At the moment the 1024 Mb pay about 25 pounds.

Things to remember installing Windows.

1. Making copies of your data, including the following locations:

- Your desktop
- My Documents
- My paintings
- My video
- From the desktop

best to rip the data to another drive, or CD / DVD.

Data Recovery
